I needed an inverter to charge my laptop and cell phone in the car on road trips, and this one fit the bill nicely. I have tested it out in the car with my computer plugged in, and it works fine. It powered my computer and supplied plenty of current to charge the battery while I was using it.
This thing is smart. If you try to run it off the 12V accessory outlet in your car without running the engine, the inverter lets out a constant beep telling you that you’re going to run down your battery if you continue. According to the manual, this beep could also mean that the voltage dropped below 11.0V. I didn’t know which it was in my particular case, but as soon as I started the engine, the squeal stopped and it was happy to charge my computer.
The ground fault interruptor, overpower and underpower warnings, battery drain warnings, auto shut-off, the 12V DC pass-through, and the option to hook the inverter directly to your battery are all very very useful features on a solid product. Well worth the reasonable price you pay!
A word of warning: if you need an inverter, make SURE you look at the amperage needed to power whatever it is you want to plug in! This one supplies 1.74 amps, which is more than enough for most laptops, game consoles, cell phones, and portable TVs, but ALWAYS double check and make sure. If you want to plug in a small fridge, for example, check the power requirements to make sure this thing can supply enough current! You’ll save yourself a lot of frustration if you are certain of what you are buying.
I highly recommend this inverter! It’s worth every penny, and it feels and performs like a much more expensive unit.

Have had this for over two years and have used it for a number of road trips, powering a laptop to double as a DVD player and a GPS or cell phone using the 12V pass-thru. The 12V pass-thru is especially useful. Outstanding product!

This black and Decker comes with 2 sets of cables. One to connect to the cigarrette lighter and one to connect directly to the battery.
At first I wanted an Inverter without cables but found out that the maximum wattage for the DC lighter connector is 80 watts, so without direct battery cables it would limit the applications of this Inverter.
Also when connected to the cigarrette lighter outlet with cables it can accomodate the Inverter better instead of hanging it in the air.
It comes with one 115 volts 3 prong outlet and one 12 volts DC outlet.
The cooling fan sound is not noticeable.
Overall, it has a nice design, I got it for a very good price at Amazon and the shipping time was amasingly fast.
So far, I tried it with a notebook, a cooling fan and a battery charger, they all worked great.
Very happy with this purchase.
Highly recommend this product.

Works great only problem is it has to be hard wired to the batteries to get the full 200w ratting.

I have used this inverter several times already, and it has worked very well and runs very quietly. I will be using this on many trips in the future. It should be sufficient for things like a laptop, small refrigerator, portable DVD player, etc. A few notes though:
1. Even though it says that it is a 200 Watt power inverter, according to its manual you will need to connect it directly to the vehicle battery to get anything over 80 Watts out of it (although I believe this is a function of the vehicle wiring and should be true of any power inverter).
2. The cable going to the cigarette lighter seems to be on the short side, but it was still long enough for me to put the inverter on the floor.
3. It produces a modified sine wave, not a true sine wave, so it may not be ideal for very sensitive electronic equipment.
